Marilyn Nolen, mom to twins at 55

For Marilyn Nolen, parenting came a little later in life than she expected. With the help of assisted reproductive therapy (ART) and donor eggs, she finally became the proud mother of twin boys -- when she was 55 years old.

Now 65 and raising her two rambunctious ten-year-olds in Killeen, Tex., Nolen is one of a growing number of women in the U.S. who have entered motherhood post-40.

Monica Bellucci, Vanity Fair's cover girl, pregnant at 45

ACTRESS Monica Bellucci - at 45 years - has bared her bump a la Demi Moore for the second time on a magazine cover.

Monica told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair magazine that she decided to reveal all again to show that being a middle-aged mum is not a problem.

Monica said that she had not used medical treatment to fall pregnant.

"Maybe it's because my paternal grandmother had a child at 47 years old but I think I'm just lucky."

Scotlands oldest mum: I’ve always wanted children

Juliet Le Page became Scotland’s oldest mother when she gave birth at 50. Having settled down with her husband Richard , who is ten years her junior, Juliet has always been determined to have children.

“I was quite a determined person, I’d met my husband and thought ' I really want to have a family with this man' ,” Juliet said. “I was pretty sure I wasn’t able to conceive naturally so it had to be some form of assisted conception.”

Due to her age, In Vitro Fertilisation or IVF as it is more commonly known was not a suitable option for Juliet; she then considered fertility treatment using a donor egg.

Twins at 54 for the mother who didn't think eight was enough

At the age of 54, Karen Johnston could be counting down the days until her eight children have all flown the nest. Instead, she's having two more of them.

Thanks to IVF treatment in a foreign clinic, Mrs Johnston is now six months pregnant with twins - 33 years after she had her first child.

Women over 55 queuing at London clinics for IVF

Two women aged 58 are set to receive fertility treatment at a London clinic as record numbers attempt to become pregnant after the menopause.

The two patients are thought to be the oldest so far to seek IVF treatment after the medical centre changed its policy on older mothers.

One of those in contact with the London Women's Clinic has already been through seven failed IVF cycles. She is married and has no existing children.

Artyom was 19 when he died of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, an aggressive type of cancer.
